Since January 2007 I’ve documented every art show I’ve attended (see also Seen). Over the years it became a personal compulsion, one that will likely continue throughout my lifetime. As with any obsessive behavior, privately documenting my art experiences has become an important facet of what I do and how I behave as an artist. My intention at first was straightforward; living in NYC gives me the opportunity to see an overwhelming amount of important work, too much to rely on my memory to hold onto. Taking quick snaps was a practical way for me to capture the details I wanted to save for my future. Eventually I realized the accumulation of these photographs elevates them beyond serving simply as documentation and reference.
The shows I choose to attend and capture say quite a bit about the attitudes and ideas that influence the other areas of my work. I suppose collectively, these snaps explain much of where I’m coming from as an artist and a person, a kind of self portrait. This section is devoted to providing a continually-updated sampling of the snaps that stand out to me for whatever reason.
